Chancellor

Former Chancellor's Message

"That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." These timeless words of Neil Armstrong remind us that progress begins with a single step. When taken with vision and commitment, it can transform into achievements of lasting significance.
Sikkim holds a special place in the Indian Union, with its interests protected under Article 371F of the Constitution of India. It is our responsibility to ensure that the people of Sikkim, particularly those of Sikkimese origin, are provided with opportunities that safeguard their identity, nurture their growth and enable them to achieve social, economic, and intellectual advancement — not merely at par with the rest of the country, but often above it.
The National University of Law, Sikkim, is founded upon this vision. Our endeavour is to give special attention to law students — especially those having Sikkimese backgrounds — so that they emerge as legal professionals of excellence; capable of contributing meaningfully in whichever field of law or public life they choose to embark upon.
This University is committed to becoming a centre of excellence in legal education. It shall never be an elitist institution serving a privileged few. Rather, it will stand as an inclusive seat of learning — one that opens its doors, especially to those who are less socially fortunate, making quality legal education — a true instrument of empowerment towards quest for justice — accessible to one and all.
In the years ahead, I envision this University becoming a role model for all national law universities in India. It aspires to be the first institution that encourages its students to think beyond precedents, to innovate in order to unravel their true potential, to be curious and to question — just as Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore envisioned when he created Visva-Bharati University, a place where the mind is free and creativity thrives.
As Chancellor, I assure every student, parent, and citizen that this University will never compromise on its core values, its quality or its character. Its true strength will shine through the legal skills, professional integrity, and human values embodied by its students who will leave this institution not only as legal professionals but as protectors and preservers of justice.
